Missionaries of Africa, Jinja

Being guided by the Apostolic zeal and the call for service, as trainees to lifetime service to the people of God, we went forth to commit ourselves to right time inauguration. As they say ‘practice makes perfect,’ I feel it is necessary to add some things to the phrase: ‘a well done practice, makes perfect.’ Why does it need some flesh added to it? If we critically would like to serve the people of God as Missionaries of Africa, we need to put more effort and be more effective in the preparation for the ministry. With the drive to serve the nation of God in different areas around Jinja, we hastened to be commissioned and be well equipped to commence. “We, (NAME) and (NAME) O Lord, would like to bring your love, compassion and to make known the glorious splendor  of your name to the people of (PASTORAL APPOINTMENT).”These were the words of commitment to Christ whom we believe He called us to serve Him as M.Afr. Pastoral work is one of the pillars of our formation program for the first cycle. This year, we have thirty eight students who reach out on Saturdays and Sundays to seventeen different areas of apostolate. I as a formator believe that, we and the students in formation need to be nourished and challenged by divine and human realities, which are outside our formation house; our comfort zone and security. Together, we reflect, share and pray about situations in which students find themselves. Examples of these situations are: prison ministry, youth ministry, outstation ministry, serving people with disabilities, hospital ministry or being for the first time involved in interreligious dialogue and ecumenism among others. Filbert Tarimo The spirit of caring for the environment in Lavigerie House, is enjoyable. It surrounds several kinds of intelligence. Normally the Society of the Missionaries of Africa, nurtures students to grow in the aspects of intellectual, spiritual, human formation and pastoral work. As part of the signs of intellectual growth, which is intermingled with spiritual formation, human formation incorporates doing manual work which involves several intelligences, such as body/kinaesthetic and spacial intelligences. The use of the body parts, creatively to make the compound beautiful, also, helping in the development of sufficient reasons for the existence of things the way they appear by nature and how they should look like. With the acquaintance of Palmer Parker’s quote that, we are deeply an interconnected species, who need to embrace the simple fact that we are dependent on and accountable to the ecosphere, members of Lavigerie House embrace the simple premise of being part of a whole and seeing the whole in part of themselves.  This inspiration lies behind the creation of a splendid environment. The flowers that blossom with grace in front of the chapel, the flowers of new respire in front the apartments and the verdant foliage of green grass and green trees disseminate the compound with peace, love and sustenance of its beauty.
