THE PASSION OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST: VENERATION OF THE HOLY CROSS
Today, Good Friday is a remembrance of the Passion of our Lord
Jesus Christ. We also venerate, on this day, the Holy Cross from which our
Saviour died, freeing us from the bondage of Sin.
This year, the serivce was accorded to Br. Amans team under the
chaplaincy of Br. Venacio. We were also blessed with the presence of Fr. Martin
Onyango M.Afr, former Parish Priest of South B parish in Kenya. In his
reflection on the Lord’s Passion, Br. Venacio elucidated on the direction of
Jesus’ whole life as leading to this one glorious and at the same time painful
moment in his life, the death on the Cross. This was all to express His love
and self-sacrifice for all mankind; and obedience to the will of God the
Father. His death on the Cross is also a holy and eternal sacrificial offering
for our sins.
He also invited us to identify with Simon of Cyrene in carrying
our crosses daily. This, he did, to encourage us not to be afraid of the cross
for God has taught us that He can draw good from every human suffering and
falls. On the whole, he invited us to daily take up our crosses and follow
Jesus, thus, living a life based on the Gospel values. Of these values also
includes placing the love of God and neighbour above all the other worldly
attachments; and being zealous in the proclaiming of the Kingdom of God.
May the Lord rise in our hearts as we proclaim him in all our
daily dealings.
