The 9th April, 2017, Palm Sunday, was an extra-ordinary day for the
Christians of St. Mary-Kivubuka out-station. Joining the whole Catholic Church
to commemorate the day when Jesus entered Jerusalem with great glory, we sung Hosanna
as people were welcoming him, the savior of the world. Fr. Yago, the celebrant
of the Eucharistic celebration, in his introductory remarks said, Jesus did not
come as many of the political leaders do, but came in a humble way. He
therefore requested us to imitate Christ as our greatest example in our daily
lives.

In his homily, he emphasized on the aspect
of humility towards one another as Jesus was by washing his disciples’ feet.
This is also reflected in Paul’s letter to the Philippians 2:6-7, “though
he was in a form of God, Jesus did not deem equality with God, but rather he
emptied himself, taking a form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men,
and in habit found as a man”. In this humility, he asked us to go
beyond our cultural beliefs in our lives. This was portrayed by the six couples
who had come together to church. According to Basoga culture men are not
allowed to kneel before their spouses when greeting each other which they did
that day as a sign of humility. He clarified that he did not actually mean that
men should adopt the action that way, but to always help each other in their
daily activities in homes. In his remarks he said this can only be done out of
love.
Wonders never end in our lives we too went
to visit the sick people in the out station. The sick looked not to be sick
because of the joy that had overwhelmed them. The presence itself was more
important than any other thing. The elders were as if they were ten years.
Jesus invites us to find Him in such people by visiting them, being with them,
and chatting with them. It is through our interaction that we (they) find life
in us (them).

He invited us to be a peaceful and loving
society that is hospitable to all kinds of people by taking Jesus as the role
model in our lives; in whatever we do and wished us a happy Holy week.
